Toile de Jouy is a key design aesthetic, one which customers know and love. When Toile de Jouy was invented in the 18th century, the designs truly took the world by storm. Their look remains fresh and appealing today.
We are a France-based house and we at Anne de Solène fully understand the importance of Toile de Jouy to French design and culture.
In creating our newest, true Toile de Jouy bedding and bath designs (Galante), we went to the source, the person who in 1760 created the style in call Toile de Jouy and in so doing, we worked with the Toile de Jouy Museum in France,
The Museum, in French, is called the Musée de la Toile de Jouy, which is based in Jouy en Josas.
Jouy en Josas is very close to Versailles, which is also very close to Paris.
Galante is a design that while originating in France 244 years ago, looks modern, sophisticated and fresh today.
Discovered as a printed canvas in the textile archives of the Toile de Jouy Museum in France, reinterpreted by Anne de Solène and coordinated with a striking 3-lined stripe print.
Founded in Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf, the Oberkampf Manufactory, based in Jouy-en-Josas, then a village just outside of Paris, created textile designs inspired by the discoveries of ancient lands. Galante, a design from 1780, speaks of gallantry and romance. The look is very handsome, bucolic and romanticized.
The Toile de Jouy print is done in a very lovely shade of blue, on a white ground. It is coordinated with a 3-lined stripe, also printed in blue, on a white ground.
The Galante duvet covers and shams are reversible. One side has the Toile de Jouy print, the other side has the 3-lined stripes print.
The flat sheet is made with the Toile de Jouy print.
The fitted sheet and pillowcases are made with the 3-lined stripes print.
The flat sheet, pillowcases and shams are embellished with an inset grosgrain ribbon trim.
Galante printed coverlets offer chic style, with the Toile de Jouy print on one side, framed with the stripes print. The other side has the stripes print. All edges are finished. Lightly matelassé quilted. Percale construction. Made of Organic 100% long-staple cotton. Made in France.
