Momme
The momme is a Japanese unit of measurement which used to evaluate the density of the silk and thus to define the quality of the fabric; similar to thread count in cotton sheeting. Higher momme count silk is heavier with a denser weave and thicker individual silk fibers than lower momme count silk. Higher momme count silk is also more costly. Under 20 momme is generally considered lightweight silk. 20 momme to 28 momme is considered midweight, and anything above 28 momme is categorized as heavy.
